WHAT IS A FACIAL TONER? USES OF TONER? WHEN & HOW TO APPLY IT? TIGHTENS PORES? MY FAVORITE TONER
Hello everyone out there,
Let me start this blog with a question, Is your skin 100% clean after you wash your face every time, using a soap or face wash? Have you taken any steps to discover it till day?
My honest answer is NO. We usually tend to believe that our face gets cleansed thoroughly as we use a good face cleanser, it can be either a bathing soap or a face wash. I am unaware that our face still carries some dirt after cleansing, especially during evenings, till I started using a toner. These excess dirt which remains in our face will cause acne, dark spots and other skin issues.
In this blog, Let me share everything you need to know, about a toner.
WHAT IS A FACIAL TONER?
A toner is a fast-penetrating liquid that delivers skin a quick hit of hydration and helps to remove dead cells off the surface of the skin which results a plump and a refreshing skin. It comes in a water-based liquid form that may be infused with skin-soothing ingredients like eucalyptus, peppermint and aloe, depending on skin types.
A toner's job is meant to gently refresh your skin without stripping it of its natural moisture. This means toner won't irritate sensitive skin or cause excessive dryness. Toner also prepares the skin to drink up your post-cleansing moisturizer and any other skin treatments that you may apply.
Astringent is commonly mistaken for toner, but they're two slightly different products. The main difference is that astringent contains alcohol, which is an ideal ingredient for those with oily skin. Astringents are especially good at helping to control oil.
USES OF A TONER:
1. Restores your skin's pH balance - Our skin is naturally acidic, typically with a pH balance of between five and six (on a scale from 0 to 14). But that balance can get out of whack after cleansing due to the alkaline nature of soap. When this happens, your skin needs to work overtime to return to its normal levels (and that may result in oil), but using a toner can help restore this balance quickly.
2. Shrinks pores - Applying a small amount of toner to a soft cotton ball or pad and gently blotting and wiping your face with it will remove oil and give the appearance of smaller pores.
3. Adds a layer of protection like a primer - Toners can help close pores and tighten cell gaps after cleansing, reducing the penetration of impurities and environmental contaminants into the skin. It can even protect and remove chlorine and minerals present in tap water. It acts as a primer for rest of the skin care routine like serums and moisturizers.
4. Acts like a moisturizer - Some toners are humectants, which means they help to bind moisture to the skin.
5. Refreshes skin - Toner can also be used in lieu of washing your skin when it's oily or dirty. It will leave your skin revitalized even when you're on the go.
6. Prevents ingrown hairs - Toners containing glycolic acid or other alpha hydroxy acids can help to prevent ingrown hairs, so it also aids in grooming.
7. Removes excess dirt - Toners remove excess dirt that remains on the skin after face wash, which helps the moisturizers to penetrate into the skin easily.
WHEN TO USE A TONER?
A toner can be used immediately after cleansing your face and before applying some serum or moisturizer.
Toner when used after washing your face, completes the cleansing process. Daily environmental stress, pollutants, dirt, and grind that remain on your skin at the end of the day get better thoroughly removed than by just washing with cleanser alone.
Therefore, using a toner is another step in the thorough cleansing of your face. By eliminating the excess oil, your pores will also appear smaller and tighter in addition to lessening your chances of breakouts.
HOW TO APPLY A TONER?
You can apply a toner in two different ways.
Cleanse your face with a good face cleanser and pat dry the face with a soft towel.
Method 1:
MY FAVORITE TONER:
Personally, toner helped me a lot in reducing my pimples by removing excess dirt and oil from my face and it played a major role in shrinking my pores.
Since I have a sensitive combination skin, I was very cautious in choosing a right toner. I made sure that my toner must not be loaded with harsh chemicals and it must be alcohol-free. Alcohol-free toner
keeps the skin moist even before applying the moisturizer without leaving the skin dry.
I want my toner to possess some ingredients like rose water, cucumber and green tea extracts, as they play a key role in shrinking facial pores.
That's why, I have chosen WOW Lavender & Rose No Parabens & Sulphate Skin Mist Toner.
I have been using this toner so long and on a daily basis to remove the excess impurities from my face and to tighten facial pores.
